# Can't pre-fill form fields with procedure described in Mautic documentation

Hi

I am having a similar challenge here. I have done research and found a few posts on this ([How to pre populate a form with an email address for idiots like me.](https://forum.mautic.org/t/how-to-pre-populate-a-form-with-an-email-address-for-idiots-like-me/10200) amount others) and still I am not getting the desired behaviour ☹

I have created a form with email and made behaviour Auto-Fill Data:

I also made sure that the email field in Custom Fields is set to Publicly Updatable:

I created an email with the link [https://mydomain.com/form\_landingpage.html?email={leadfield=email|true}](https://mydomain.com/form_landingpage.html?email=%7Bleadfield=email%7Ctrue%7D)  
Sent this mailer, clicked, and e-mail was not repopulated.  
Then went and tried with contact field instead of lead field.  
[https://mydomain.com/form\_landingpage.html?email={contactfield=email|true}](https://mydomain.com/form_landingpage.html?email=%7Bcontactfield=email%7Ctrue%7D)

Same - not populated.

Checked the code that is manually generated from Form:

Any insights to what I am missing would be great.
