# Import contacts hanging

Hi All,
I have just tried to import my contacts with a CSV file.
The screen says not to ‘Leave this page’ and it says it is importing.
The number of records shows 0/704
I have left this page to run for over 45 mins and still nothing has changed.
Any ideas why?
How long does it take normally?
Is 45 mins reasonable, so far?
There is NO error msg.

Should i have clicked on ‘Finish on the background’ ?

Hi,
Maybe you should cancel that and try again.
Finish in the background is a good option, but you need the trigger app/console mautic:import added to your cron.
If a new try fails again, I suggest you to check the CSV file. Keep only the very needed columns to avoid problems.
704 entries are not much at all, I had sucess with 10k lines.

OK just found that only 55 have gone through so will try the rest again.

HI still a bit confused, should i use the ‘Finish in background’ or not, as I don’t when the 55 contacts were imported (before or after I had pressed that button)?
What is the best practice please?

Incidentally, how long would you think it should take to import 700 odd contacts please?
