# Installation Ubuntu Localhost

Ubuntu 16.04: Are there any suggested steps for installing? I’ve confirmed that mod\_rewrite is installed but still not getting installer to render.  
  
  
  
I can look at it on AWS so, not urgent, but want to be able to look at on my localhost

@RaginCajun ,  
to install, I did just what is said [here](https://mautic.org/docs/en/setup/getting_started.html) on an EC2 instance.

you should be able to follow that and make it work. Extract the zip into /var/www/html/mautic (or similar), hit the installer page - and things should just work…

What errors are you getting.

The instance I’m referring to here is a Ubuntu VM on my desktop. AWS is working fine, but I want to have a dev instance on my computer.

Doesn’t look like I can post a screen shot, but at the URL:  
[http://localhost/mautic/2.7.1/index.php/installer](http://localhost/mautic/2.7.1/index.php/installer)

I’m getting the error:  
The site is currently offline due to encountering an error. If the problem persists, please contact the system administrator.  
System administrators, check server logs for errors.

Nothing is reported to the error log.
