# Issues - Configuring the regular GMail

My Mautic version is: 3.2.1  
My PHP version is: 7.3.27  
My Database type and version is:

**Your problem**  
My problem is:

Unable to connect to my regular gmail account (the free version).

Details -  
I am very very new to Mautic and as such I wanted to test Mautic before going live with this.

Here is what I have done thus far -

1. Uploaded and installed Mautic on my test server.
2. I was trying to add my regular gmail here - Configuration → Mail Send Settings → E-mail address to send mail from  
As I cannot upload any image here, here are the settings on this box -

Custom return path (bounce) address: the same email address  
Mailer is owner - Yes  
Service to send mail through - Gmail  
Username for the selected mail service - the email address  
Password for the selected mail service - the gmail password

I have then clicked the save button. And it seems to persist (which confirms that the details are saved).

Now when I click the “Test Connection” button or the “Send Test Mail” - I get the following error -

Failed to authenticate on SMTP server with username “[my-actual-email@gmail.com](mailto:my-actual-email@gmail.com)” using 1 possible authenticators. Authenticator LOGIN returned Expected response code 235 but got code “535”, with message "535-5.7.8 Username and Password not accepted. Learn more at 535 5.7.8 [https://support.google.com/mail/?p=BadCredentials](https://support.google.com/mail/?p=BadCredentials) a22sm14264193wrc.59 - gsmtp

Would be thankful if you could help me resolve this issue.

In gmail setting you must enable [Less Secure Apps](https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/6010255?hl=en)

Thank you for the reply. But sadly, this does not seen to resolve the issue and I still get the same error.

Are there some more steps involved?

It might be worth mentioning that as of now, I have not setup the Cron Jobs or even the IP Lookup. I kept them on hold as I was eager to get the email setup first.
