# Segment Sizes with Email

**Your software**
My Mautic version is: 3.2.4
My PHP version is: 7.2.34
My Database type and version is: MySQL 5.0.12
**Your problem**
My problem is:
When attaching a segment to an email the segment membership decreases / the amount of contacts the email is being sent to is lowered.
These errors are showing in the log: N/A
Steps I have tried to fix the problem:
We’ve tried adding segment membership filters like ‘DNC’ to work around this and get a true representation of the actual segment membership but when we attach to a segment it still decreases.

Technically, different emails to different segments. Our Ad Ops team will attach a segment to an email to see the “true” segment size.

I’m just asking because let’s say you have 5 contacts: A, B,C, D, E
Segment 1 = A, B, C
Segment 2 = B,C,D,E
After sending an email to Segment 1, and scheduling Segment 2, you will see only 2 people in the queue, cause B and C from Segment 2 got the email based on their Segment 1 membership.

At this point we haven’t sent any emails, we’ve only created an email and attached a segment. From there we’re seeing the decrease in segment membership.

Did you import contacts directly into a segment or you use a filter for segment creation?
If so, can you plz share the filter screenshot?

Can you plz add:
and
Email - Bounced Not equal YES
and
Email - Unsubscribed Not equal YES
“I’m not sure what Never Contact Again is. - I guess it’s a custom field”
