# SMTP AWS SES connection error with Open SSL?

**Your software**  
My Mautic version is: 5.2.2  
My PHP version is: 8.1.32  
My Database type and version is: PHP Version 8.1.32

**Your problem**  
My problem is: when i test SMTP from AWS SES I get Connection could not be established with host “ssl://email-smtp.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com:465”: stream\_socket\_client(): SSL operation failed with code 1. OpenSSL Error messages: error:0A000086:SSL routines::certificate verify failed

These errors are showing in the log: 6-16T19:55:41.822182+00:00] app.ERROR: [MAIL ERROR] Unable to connect with STARTTLS: stream\_socket\_enable\_crypto(): SSL operation failed with code 1.

Steps I have tried to fix the problem: Cleaed the cache, tried all the SES suggested ports, checked the SSL with an online checker. Im stumpted.

Any suggestions. Thanks!
