Why " " instead of space?

Is there a reason the email editor always adds " " instead of a normal space when I hit the space bar?

Hi @MxyzptlkFishStix I know what the   is… :wink:
I just wonder, why its added once in a while instead of a standard space. Is this caused by some accidentally pressed key combination I don’t know?
