Email Preview / Preheader Text

@DerekBuntin just saw this: https://www.campaignmonitor.com/blog/new-features/2017/03/announcing-flexible-preheader/

Is this what you were imagining as a feature in Mautic?

Yes @chris0928, it makes complete sense to be able to have a separate text area for this function.

Be aware that hidden text in email can increase spam score.

SpamAssassin gives 2.0 points to email with hidden text.

@asrulmunir I assume you’re referencing this post ?

If you read the article it details that this particular person received a spam score of 2.0 points but there is no real data showing that it was the hidden text or the email itself, we would really need to break down everything about the email and test each element for it to be conclusive.

I would point out though that having the background and text the same colour would likely be a source of spam, which if you look at the inline styling is exactly what they did.

That being said, using hidden anything will undoubtedly cause concern for spam filters, so it’s likely best practice to modify your template so that your content is the first to be picked up.

Also, spam assassin using needs a spam score of 5.0 points to consider the email spam, which is the default so if your email isn’t spammy and conforms to best practice it should be fine.

@asrulmunir @DerekBuntin I think it’s certainly worth considering how hidden text could impact spam score. In my experience it hasn’t been an issue. I recently started using Glock Apps for spam testing and in the handful of campaigns I’ve run the hidden preview text hasn’t added any points to my score. But I haven’t tested extensively, so it’s something to think about on a case-by-case basis probably.

In the inbox, preview text is likely not as important as sender name and subject line. But I think enticing preview text can definitely be a valuable contributor to better engagement with an email!

@chris0928 I agree, but like any email, you should concern yourself with all elements.

From a marketing perspective, the preview text is important in improving open rates, I’m sure it’ll become a much more common practice as time goes on but for now we will need to work around where we can.

Yup that’s exactly the point I was making in the second paragraph of my post, @DerekBuntin :slight_smile:

I changed the text first seen on the page and removed the unsubscribe link to the footer only, now it looks not too bad without the need for the hidden text.

This is a functionality that we want badly. Since this is a 3 years post, does anyone knows if there is an implementation of it?
Here is an update link of Campaign Monitor preheader feature https://help.campaignmonitor.com/preheader-text

I solved it by entering the code found in this video tutorial https://youtu.be/d5lwydFLnd4

Dear @sparrowandsnow , thanks for sharing!
Would you mind posting more details? I think that’d be helpful for many :slight_smile:

Did you experience this big when you added the proper HTML code?

As the poster of this bug mentioned - not possible.

I have been using this for a while.

I created a very quick tutorial video on how to do it with the new builder.

For anyone coming across this issue in times of MJML, it has now gotten quite easier:

You can include your preview text within the -Tag and inlcude that inside the -Tag.
https://documentation.mjml.io/#mj-preview I tested this with a test-email and the mj-preview tag seems to work in mautic.

Hi, it should work.
Did you add it to the head?

Is there a way to build a widget to set this? Is this on any roadmap?

I thought it would work as well. Basically I did is this :

I put the code I saw on Documentation for MJML - The Responsive Email Framework and I also watched the video from Robm.

  1. You need to move out the preview outside of my-style. (Switch line 8 and 9)
  2. What are the 2 divs on the top?
