Joomla Plugin - TOAuth2 or Not TOAuth2 that is the question...

All the threads I have read and all the research I have done tells me that when authenticating the Joomla Plugin to my Mautic install that I should simply use OAuth2 and all of my tests and attempts to get OAuth1 to work confirm this.

I am not using SSL and may not use it in the near future. I do not see any code that forces “https” or specific secure port communication so is it safe to assume this is “as currently designed” and move on with the build out of my test system?

If not, how in the world do you get OAuth1 to authenticate? I have tried fresh installs, free API Credentials (both with exact same settings) etc. and can still only get OAuth2 to authenticate and work.
