Your problem
My problem is :

I can’t figure this out because it works and then doesn’t a bunch of times, and then it works, but even when the emails go through, I get an error log with the same information, and sometimes it says it was successful, I know the customer’s email isn’t actually receiving anything because they check there spam folder, inbox, and even have the email I’m using to send with from Mautic in there safe sender list and that doesn’t help.

My email server works fine with any other program, including WordPress and using plugins in WordPress to connect to my email server settings works fine, only Mautic I have this issue with.

I still have no idea why its using or showing server1642.mylogin.co with hostname because I have my email address with email server as host, that information it shows is my actually dedicated server address to login to my server, not Mautic.

I also don’t know what this is about campaigns+bounce_numbers@xxxx.xxx that is not a real email address and I have an email address using capaigns@xxxx.xxx and I also have an email address bounced@xxxx.xxx for my cron jobs for Mautic to send any reports to

I have Autism and have a hard time explaining sometimes, if someone understands what this problem is and could do like a zoom or remote call with me to help me fix this, I really would appreciate it, I’m also on Slack in the Mautic community.

Steps I have tried to fix the problem :

Contacted my web hosting support for my server, they tell me this is a Mautic issue and not on my server so they won’t help me. If there was more details on it being my server that I could give them, than they would look into it. I did a backup first of database and mautic file structure itself before doing an update. It took me 5 tries to get the update to work, I was getting an error unable to download. My incoming/outgoing connections are good I have all Mautic approved and when it does an update any new IP addresses show up I add them to approve so that’s working. Before Mautic 4.4.x I really never ever had an issue, now I see more and more problems, but this is the big one that is a must, and deals with emails not sending. All of my cron jobs are are configured right and working I’ve testing them multiple times.

Hey vcdesigns,

Can you confirm that php errors are turned on, it will be in the php.ini file. Looking at the logs the mautic:email:Send command (at the end of the logs you provided) has hit an error for some reason, if your php errors are turned on you should see something like php.CRITICAL or PHP.ERROR. Once you know why that is failing it might shed some light into what is happening.

Hello,

I’m still unable to use my mautic it’s all about not able to send out emails. The configuration section for email all works fine, when I do test connection everything works fine, it’s when I do a send a test out, or when I try and send emails I get the same errors over and over.

I also have php error reporting on, but I don’t seem to get anything. I had my dedicated server support people look and they say it’s Mautic with the issue on there end PHP is working fine, email server is working fine. I never had this issue until version 4.4.x I have walked about from Mautic and went to stupid 3rd party sites. I love Mautic I been using it since version 1.2 and all the way up to version 4.4.x never had any issues with anything and now it’s all the time.

This is all I have for every day of the past few months I just copied this one it’s every single day with this error and they tell me on the server things are fine, so I’m not sure what is going on.

Hi, what is you smtp provider? Are you sure you have all the right to send email out?

the smtp provider works just fine, because I use outlook and have emails configured and working on at least 20 computers 10 tablets, and smartphones all work perfectly well. I have my own dedicated server and I also have my own resell hosting and use my domain and configurations and works perfectly fine, it’s Mautic that doesn’t like it and or the server simply doesn’t like mautic. because the configuration section shows it’s connected and working when you setup Mautic for emails, it’s simply doesn’t send anything out and it says it does send it out. Like I’ve said before version 4.4.x i never had any issues for years. I’ve even tried fresh installs with the newest version, the setup and install goes through perfectly fine, it’s just related to emails not sending. Remote zoom or teams to do screen share is more helpful than trying to type all this up.

Okay, I’ll look you up. I mostly work with SES API. It’s hard to fix a custom SMTP connection.
The reason can be missing php libraries, Mautic bug, authentication problems, wrong setup, hosting provider blocks, firewall (I’m talking about you wordfence). They are all impossible to fix in a 10 min call.

I’ve learned this is a very common issue with Mautic with SMTP connections, a few other websites have this same crazy issue going on.

This is one article because of this article my dedicated server tech support is looking into it because it gives them some actual data to go by.

My dedicated hosting server support team spent around 10 hours this weekend on this issue with Mautic, and like them, they can’t figure this out either, Mautic simply has an issue with SMTP on VPS and or dedicated servers using SMTP. This is just a short response after they looked into this.

Instead of using the From that it is set up with - which is campaigns@allthingswordpress.agency, it actually tries to use a non existent email address, which triggers the MTA’s forged headers ACL check, flagging the email as problematic and rejecting it.
The relevant MTA log messages to corroborate that statement have already been provided to you in previous ticket replies.

I cannot give you the reason why Mautic is doing this. I went through the application’s settings thanks to the login details you have given us and found nothing suggesting the use of a custom MAIL FROM command. Mautic’s documentation on bounces here - Bounce management | Mautic is vague at best, because they say they are rewriting only Return-Path and List-Unsubscribe headers.

I can disable the forged headers check for your server which will allow for emails to pass through when a different From is being
used but this is not advisable, as it may cause more problems down the line - such as emails flagged as spam by recipient MTAs.

Try contacting Mautic’s support so that they can advise on why is the From header different from the pre-configured email address.

I searched through the Mautic’s code base for where the campaings+bounce_ could be added and I didn’t find any such place. Do you have an option to test sending through different email service provider?

It’s not just me that has this issue if you read above there are a couple of articles with Mautic having this issue and it’s in versions 4.3.x and up. I haven’t relied on Mautic now for a few months because of this issue and it’s not my SMTP provider, they even went in to Mautic and changed all the SMTP to other 3rd party vendors and still the same thing with email+bounce_numbers@domainame.com Even with a clean install this is happening.

I think you should check out how your emails look like before sending to the SMTP.

  1. Set Mautic as queue send
  2. Make sure mautic:emails:send is not set in your cron
  3. Send an email, and check the /var/spool folder.
    Check the email’s content and verify what is the sender.

The email is completely fine it used to work before version 4.3.x nothing has change other than the updates changing something. Also you should have under cron to not have mautic:emails:send because I have had that under cron job for years and has worked fine. i’m removing it now.

I also know the senders and the email addresses I have are legit, because I can email them directly with no issues I can copy and past an entire newsletter by using an email platform and no issues, its just mautic doing this. I just had my DNS settings and SMTP settings and mail all tested and all come back green my score is 90 out of 100 and up to 99 out of 100 in the green zone, so it’s not my side or my server,

I found where the email address that is adding +bounce to the email address is generated in the code now:

It is not adding it to the FROM field though. It’s adding it as the Return-Path header. This happens only when the Monitored Inbox Settings is enabled. So the quick fix for this is to disable this feature.

But this code was last changed 6 years ago. I don’t see any sign of this causing issues since the 4.3 version

Yeah, I had this hunch, and this way my first question as well, but @ayayron said, he is not using them.
I still think it’s worth to see what emails are going out from Mautic. If the file that goes out doesn’t contain this information, then there is wrong setting in the SMTP.

My money is on the SMTP service.
The config is wrong.
That is the only moving part in this mystery.

My SMTP settings are just fine and also Mautic when you configure all the email settings it shows successful with no error issues, it’s only when emails are being sent out that have this problem.

I just deleted everything for Monitored Inbox Settings to Disable it and cleared the cache and still the same thing, nothing changes. I have created brand new emails in Mautic, using valid email addresses to send to and they still come back with this crazy bounced issue. I’ve been all over my hosting support and now they want me to pay for them to help me when there is nothing wrong with my SMTP they are getting tired of my asking them more questions and having them check this and that when they can’t find anything wrong.

I have even changed the settings using SSL to no encryption and changed the smtp authentication mode by selecting them all, it doesn’t matter it still shows the same errors. I’ve been at this for months getting now where. My SMTP service is just fine because I’ve had many SMTP email. Below the Mautic Errors is a full report on my SMTP report.
