Any updates on this? There is a lot of request on this plugin/feature as Twilio is not cost effective in several countries. An open source project like Mautic should not tie itself to just one commercial product like Twilio.

As an Open Source project, anyone is welcome to create an SMS transport using other providers, however this would be a third party plugin rather than something that would ship with core.

And you can also just use Webhooks to deliver SMS if you are in hurry.
