Been pulling our hair out for a couple of days, Import from a csv file was causing duplicates in Mautic… Checked everything all settings correct and everywhere we read stated this should not happen with Mautic, This cannot happen with Mautic, however it was for us… every import we had duplicates…
What We Found:-
In Configuration | Tracking Settings | Identify visitor by tracking url
The pop up note says “Note: Email field have to be marked as unique indentifier and publicly updatable in Configuration.”…
However setting email field to publicly updatable allows duplicates to be created on import from CSV files etc… Turn off publicly updatable on your email field and duplicates will no longer be created they will be merged as they should…
Try it out, ‘email publicly updatable’ allows duplication… ‘email not publicly updatable’ does not allow duplication… Both set as unique as you should.
This is very misleading as you think you are setting up correctly Identify visitor by tracking url is recommended for email tracking etc…and yet the documentation tells you to set up this way and in doing so you allow duplicates to be created on import, not good…
Is this a known issue and what problems can be caused by turned off Identify visitor by tracking url, we have currently turned this off and set email to not be publicly updatable and kept it unique as we should so we can import our lists safety without duplication etc…
Perhaps someone with more experience in Mautic could help us out, seems that email being publicly updatable could be the cause of many of the duplicates on import posts we have found on here and elsewhere, what are the best settings here?
