Google UTM Links not working in emails

Hi there, just a quick general question from a newbie although I can provide more detail if required.

For quite a while, I’ve been running an email campaign on Mautic which included direct URLs to our website pages.

I thought it might be useful to turn these links into Google UTM links so that I can track everything on Google Analytics.

However, since I’ve done this, I’ve noticed that about half of the links now no longer work and simply direct the user to a 404 Not Found page (although, confusingly, some of the links do still seem to work fine.)

I guess this is due to the extra tracking that Mautic adds to the link when the emails are sent out to the recipients.

For example, when I insert a shortened Google UTM link into the email such as:

https://goo.gl/w6bEIZ

The final Mautic email turns it into this link which doesn’t work:

It’s difficult to monitor in testing, as I only see the original versions of the links in the test emails.

I just wondered if there was a general guideline to follow here?

Should I be using the full Google UTM links instead of shortened versions?

Shouldn’t I be using Google UTM links at all?

Is there anything I can change in the settings to stop this happening?

Any guidance appreciated!

A quick update on this…

I originally thought that the problem was down to the insertion of the Google UTM links as this was when the problem started.
But I’ve also just noticed that a couple of direct links are no longer working either.

The only other thing I’ve changed recently is that I’ve updated all http links to https.
Is the problem more likely to be something to do with this?

If they’re the same links that aren’t working then I’d say it’s not Mautic. Configure your htaccess to rewrite http to https and see what happens
