Single contact existing in multiple stages for different marketing channels or funnels simultaneously

Hi all… I have a general question about “Stages” in mautic. There is a constraint in mautic: “A Contact can only ever be in one Stage at a time.”, but why? I mean, in email-marketing - a single contact might be in different stages in multiple sales funnels simultaneously, right? “You can have multiple funnels with different Stages” this has no value if a contact is part of multiple funnels. Is this something Mautic team acknowledges as a problem OR maybe have a justification for it? In case if it’s a problem, what’s your preferred workaround for it? To my understanding, using Tags and Segments for the leads progress tracking in funnels is an option, but kind-of a non-ideal retrofit, as that may not reflect the semantics of Stages in funnel.

Also, a side question: Stages has a weight, is this something just to enforce the one-way progression of stages in funnel, and nothing else? I mean, does this “weight” value has any other utility in either Mautic code-base or overall email marketing workflow?

Hi there,

Right now, you’ve highlighted the limitations of the stages feature in Mautic. You can only be in one stage at a time. Most folks use Point Groups, Tags and Segments for what you’re referring to as multi-funnel membership, I think.

Weight is indeed designed to enable one-way progression through a funnel.

Hello,
answering your side question here: yes, weights are used to make sure you can’t move backwords in a funnel. This is useful if you don’t want to trigger a ‘first contact’ or ‘introduction’ campaign for someone who just lost 100 points and would be degraded to a previous stage.
