Better to download Mautic or use the self hosted?

Just curious to know the difference between the free hosted version of Mautic or the download version to put on my own server. Does Mautic use a lot of resources if I should put it on my server? Don’t want to create any issues on my server so thought it would be best to find out the load it would take to download Mautic and install on my server.

Hi @janisrae

In my opinion, running Mautic on the server takes very little resources and it’s a perfectly good option if you feel comfortable with managing applications server side (or have someone who does). The online option is great as well and a great alternative if you just want an application that is ready to go out of the box.

Thank you for your reply. OK, I did download Mautic to my computer and read through the getting started section of the manual. My question here is, where do I ftp it to on my server? Do I upload it directly onto the server somewhere or into my Wordpress area?

One more thing. Since I’m not the greatest at working with apps and technical stuff like that. Do you think I would be better off using the free hosted version?

You can definitely upload it to your WordPress area, but you will also have to create a separate database for the application. Then just follow the installation prompts.

Perhaps that will be the easiest for you. The online version works great too, but if you want more customizations, then you will have to go with the self-hosted version.

Just following since I just fisnished installaing Mauti on one of my domains.

if you have cpanel there’s an option under software / “other” to install Mautic - very easy.
