Is Mautic a good tool for non-technical users?

I’ve found Mautic on YouTube. It seems interesting compared to general email marketing solutions.

I have a basic understanding of technical concepts, I usually manage to figure things out with help from good communities and tutorials. but do not want to passt all my time on doing technical things. However, I’m new to email marketing.

From what I’ve seen, Mautic has a steep learning curve, but once you know how to use it, it’s a very powerful tool.

Here are my questions:

  1. Once Mautic is set up, does it require constant support?
  2. Do updates often break the system or plugins?
  3. What’s a reasonable budget for technical support per year?
Do I even need to budget for it?
  4. is mautic like managing your Wp website.

Thanks!

Hi @maxarch003,

Welcome to the Mautic community! I’ll address your questions based on my personal experience. Others may have different perspectives, and that’s absolutely fine.

  1. Once Mautic is set up, does it require constant support?

Yes and no. If configured correctly, Mautic doesn’t usually require constant developer support. However, as a new user, you might need help with areas like email deliverability, managing bounce rates, and issues that can arise with providers like Amazon SES. These are challenges you might not anticipate at first.

  1. Do updates often break the system or plugins?

Yes, especially when it comes to plugins. Since Mautic doesn’t yet have a marketplace or a plugin system as robust as WordPress, managing updates can sometimes be tricky. For system updates, it’s always recommended (as with WordPress) to create a full backup before installing the latest version, so you can ensure everything continues to work smoothly.

  1. What’s a reasonable budget for technical support per year?
Do I even need to budget for it?

It depends. Some people hire freelancers from platforms like Upwork or Fiverr at relatively low rates. On the other hand, some companies prefer working with experts who can provide dedicated 24/7 support, which comes at a higher cost. Your budget will depend on your specific needs and expectations.

  1. is mautic like managing your Wp website.

No. Managing Mautic is more complex than managing WordPress, in my opinion. WordPress is much more user-friendly for non-developers, whereas Mautic has a steeper learning curve.

In summary, Mautic can be more challenging to manage, but the community is actively working to make it more accessible and easier to learn. It’s an incredibly powerful tool, offering the advantages of open source, such as scalability, custom plugins, email themes, and highly effective automation.

If you’re new, I recommend joining our Slack community - it’s a great place to ask questions and learn!

Hope this information helps!

For the info provided—this aligns with what I was feeling.

From the information you shared, here’s my understanding:

  • It’s worth hiring someone for a professional installation to handle basic setup and troubleshooting. This will save me time and let me focus on learning how to use the software.
  • I’ll wait for updates related to the plugin.
  • Regarding the budget, this is a side project, not hardcore marketing, so I can consider support through platforms like Upwork or Fiverr.

Here’s some context about my needs:

  • We have around 30,000 emails to upload and plan to send by small batches.
  • We aim to send 1–2 emails monthly, with 2 follow-up emails when someone joins the list.

Do you have any recommendations for someone who can provide a functional installation tailored to these needs, and what’s the average cost for that?

Lastly, I have a question about updates:

  • Are there usually issues when upgrading within the same version, e.g., from 5.1 to 5.2?
  • Or are the problems more common when upgrading between major versions, like from 4 to 5?

will defenetly check the slack comunity
