Test or staging systems

Hello,



We’re contemplating having a test or ‘staging’ mautic system (possibly related to our staging system for our website content).



Our goals would be to test out forms, campaigns and other aspects of mautic (possibly including testing new releases prior to use in production) without any chances of accidents such as a test email going out to a real lead. I was thinking the production system would have real leads, but test would not.



Does anyone do this or are we being too cautious? If so how do you manage the different kinds of data, are there any add ons to help or perhaps you are using SQL to partially migrate data from system to the other?



Any pointers to addons, code or suggestions/advice would be appreciated.
