My idea is:
I propose adding either three new toggle buttons to each segment or one toggle called “Include only valid email recipients” to help marketers better understand the number of deliverable contacts in their email campaigns. The options would allow users to:
- Exclude unsubscribed contacts (both manual and user-initiated).
- Exclude bounced contacts.
- Exclude contacts without an email address.
Alternatively, a single toggle labeled “Include only valid email recipients” could serve to filter the segment, including only those contacts who meet the requirements for receiving emails.
I think these groups of people would benefit from this idea:
Marketers, Mautic users, and campaign managers who rely on accurate contact data for their email campaigns would greatly benefit from this feature.
Why I think they would benefit from this idea:
Currently, marketers frequently see discrepancies between the number of contacts in a segment and the number of emails sent, which leads to repeated inquiries and confusion. This happens because segments often include bounced, unsubscribed contacts, or contacts without email addresses, causing inconsistencies between the segment’s total contacts and the actual email recipients. By introducing these toggle options, users would immediately see the number of valid email recipients for their campaigns, building trust and reducing time spent explaining these differences. Additionally, it simplifies the segmentation process by allowing more precise targeting without the need for complex filters.
Any code or resources to support this idea:
For implementation, this feature would likely involve updates to the segment filters and the UI to display selectable toggles. A tooltip/information layer could display four key data points: Total Contacts, Valid Email Recipients, Unsubscribes, and Bounces. For example:
This Segment contains:
- 100 contacts in total
- 90 valid email recipients
- 6 unsubscribes
- 2 bounces
- 2 contacts without an email address
Are you willing to work on this idea?:
Yes, I’m open to collaborating on this idea, particularly to help specify the requirements and conduct user testing.
What skills and resources do you need to explore this further?
To proceed, I would need support from developers familiar with Mautic’s segmentation and filtering functions. Access to user feedback and insights on common pain points in email segmentation would also be valuable to ensure this feature is developed with the right focus.
