Tracking Anonymous Users but not Merging with Contacts

My problem is:
I can see that Mautic is tracking anonymous users, however it is not merging them with contacts.

I am sure I have seen this issue before but could not find it.

Yip, all SSL is good. Nothing coming up in error logs or console.

Mautic is sitting on a different domain from site being tracked. So site is https://displaysite.com and mautic is on https://companyname.com

I have however had the same setup even with Mautic tracking multiple sites and not seen this issue

My experience is, that cross domain tracking only works if you have the proper CNAME settings.

Can I ask to clarification on this—in the example are you using mautic.domain1.com and trackingdomain1.domain1.com interchangeably? Or are you suggesting to somehow create a second subdomain on domain1 to dedicate as a tracking domain? My understanding is that, in addition to the standard setup, if I want to use the primary mautic instance to track a secondary domain, I should go into DNS on domain1 and create a CNAME that points from the mautic.domain1.com subdomain to domain2.com.
